Greetings to you in the name of the Lord.
Spring is upon us and I see glimpses of green peeking through the receding winter. Trickles of water are beginning to flow under slowly melting ice and the early
spring rain refreshes us all. Sadly, the same cannot be said about the land across the Yalu River. There are no signs of life or vitality along the bleak North Korean river banks.

I paid a visit to one of the underground churches we help to support and met two North Korean women. Each had originally obtained permission from the North Korean government to legally cross the border over into China, but those approvals had long since expired for both. It was now illegal for them to be in China, but it was also dangerous for them to return to North Korea with expired approvals. Mrs. A (54 years of age) had originally obtained her approval to cross over into China with great di culty and now wanted nothing more than to return home to her family.

When she had rst arrived, she had come upon some of our missionaries during their visit to this underground church and through them - for the rst time in her life – was introduced to our Lord Jesus and given a Bible. She eventually came to accept Christ and worked hard to earn money from random jobs. Her steady progress was bliterated on the day her earnings were completely swindled by some Chinese. Unwilling to go back to her starving family empty-handed she stayed in China to keep working at a rate of three dollars per day. Because she had chosen to stay, earn money and not return home before her approval had expired, she was now an illegal refugee and could not stay, but it was also not safe for her to go. Her desperation to return home augmented exponentially with the news that her only child had contracted pneumonia and was slowly dying.

Such heartbreaking tales of human tragedies are endless. I could not possibly convey the fullness of the sorrow and suffering going on here, with this letter.

Mrs. B (42 years of age) came to China last October and her approval to stay was also now expired. During the rst months of her stay, Mrs. B had met some of the members of this underground church, and was introduced to the Gospel. She has now committed her life to Christ and has decided to study the Bible full time.

When she had lived in North Korea, her son was drafted into the North Korean military. Upon paying him a visit, she found him to be extremely emaciated. He had been given only a handful of rice and a few sprinkles of salt to eat twice a day. She proceeded to pack fermented soybean paste into a toothpaste tube so that her son could disguise the fact that his mother had given him a little bit more to eat, to help bolster his nutrition. It was too little, too late. Her son eventually succumbed to severe malnutrition.

Before returning to the hospital, my colleagues and I gave both of these women clothing, medicine, and a little bit of money. However, we knew that this would not sustain them for long. For them, survival along these border regions would be a real fight for life. When I think about the other 300,000 North Korean refugees subsisting along these border regions in the same dire predicament as these two women, my heart weeps.

Six excruciating decades have passed since the Korean Peninsula was violently partitioned into two opposing nations. How long must our North Korean brethren endure unimaginable pain and su ering, and how long must we remain idled in our ability to really help them? If our heart breaks for them, how much more does His heart break? May we hold to the truth that His mighty reach is not too short. For He who did not spare even His own Son will surely not withhold His saving grace and healing mercies upon His most helpless children.

- Missionary K -

Live kept in the roughness, the Special Vitamins.

This is a true story when 10,000 love-bags (Medicine and Medical equipments bag) were supplied to North Korea during December year 2004.

The worst circumstance of North Korea would be lack of food supply, however poor condition of medical equipments cannot be less considered. Over many years Cider bottle has replaced ringer and patients are open to infectious diseases and hepatitis by using same injection needle which has been grind on whetstone due to lack of disposable injection needle supply.

To support such inferior medical environment, SAM had brought 10,000 love-bags for them. However, due to insufficient size of place and numbers of people to pack up the medical equipments and SAM had to visited Shin-Eu state of North Korea to team up with North Korean Citizens.

3 days have past since the commencement of packing medical equipments. There was a theft entered into medicine storage warehouse by cutting through the roof and had the medicines stolen. The theft has soon found after enquiring investigation to public officials. Surprisingly theft was a ten years old little child. It has found to be the truth was, the child has surrendered himself. The poor child heard that precious medicine has came over from America, and risked himself to save his weak and ill mother who collapsed due to severe hunger. However, since the medicine was written over in English the poor child gave overdosed of antibiotics by misunderstanding it as vitamins.

His mother’s face became yellow and severe aftereffect came up after eating too many antibiotics. The child has got frightened and surrendered to ask help. SAM members dismissed the child who was bursting in tears and asking help to save his mum, back to home with vitamins and little bit of caution. Nonetheless, we couldn’t resist the complicated emotions and sadness. ‘ Vitamins are uncontrollable as they are over flooding in America……’ this memory has kept until now as God has send us a message.
- C Missionary, from Ap–Rok River

‘SAM loving Pyong-Yang medicine factory (completed construction during December year 2007)’ was a realization of efforts and prayers with inspiration hopes from previous sad memory of the poor child of North Korea.

This year May, when SAM team members has visited the factory, we could see the vitamins for children and pregnant mothers which has been produced with the technology, machines and resources that we have funded. SAM gala Dinner -

lOVE bag- MESK ( Medical equipment surgury kit ) dinner party was held successful at 31st of January 2009.

Sung Gyul Korean Church was very generous to share the hall and kitchen places for our gala dinner preparation. We firstly began the 'SAM love bag - Gala dinner' show with beautiful songs by Sydney Phil Master Choir and Pastor Ha's speech about 'World wide gospel.' Speech was followed by SAM Oceania director Jung's year 2008 SAM mission report and at the same we held blessing moment for OH JIN BAEK's long term mission trip to DANDONG - China.

As what Doctor Park. (Park Sai Rok) have mentioned in the 2009 new years greeting video message, God has once told us to share the goods all equally with every people who joined the war, who has not joined the war, or who lives in the west, or east, who appease me, who disagrees with me, regardless. Now what we must have to do is help and share love to the others who are in difficult situations. Especially for our friends over in Northkorea who lives in the modern times, saving their lives is the most asked by GOD. I strongly believe that this is the way how to be blessed by God and win. Love is not shared because of existence but, it's about sharing our heart by our own will. That is why love is such the most blessed by God.

For the second part of Gala dinner show, there were many volunteers who helped out making delicious foods for the dinner. During the meal, SAM organised a special time to sell the goods from DANDONG. There were book pager, scarf, pearl necklace and many others. Such variety has allowed for the buyers to be directly involved ( or indirectly) into supporitng the donation program as all the profits made from SAM Gala Dinner show will be passed on to the DANDONG hospital.

After dinner, there was piano trio with cello, violin. and song named 'Mission' sung by Sara Kim. Continously, there was a 'FM111' radio drama ' If you love, then act like them'. it was a story about the person who do not know much about North Korean mission gets to learn and know more about how to send the LOVE bag - MESK and how it can be successfully arrive the the DANDONG hospital. It was not just funny but very touching to deliver the meaning and idea of SAM mission. After the the drama, we watched the Movie about the NUTRINUT ( Jihea's miracle story) and share the plan how the nutrinut mission is going to be further spread with prayers. Lastly, we held whorship and prayers by Pastor Ha as we close the Gala dinner show for 2009.

There were many people who helped voluntary which was very blessing. Also missionaries at Ap Rock river can be always in health, and such world wide financial problem to not overwhelm the people who are in god's work. Lastly, but not least, we pray for SAM mission to raise up Glory of Jesus higher.

Christmas gift from JESUS - The soup for children

A miracle happened in the one of mountain valley of North Korea.

It was such a pity and sad thing to watch the eyes of children that are out of focus and face frowned because of hunger, wrinkled face that has dull texture with lean arm that flesh is barely left on arm and legs and swollen up belly from fasting. This is how ‘Ji-Hye’ looked when we first met her during August. “ Hope we can restore back smile in her face…”

Mother of ‘Ji- Hye’ has came to us by resisting the staff who tried to stop her showed the urgent facial feelings about her daughters life and actions such as ignoring her safety revealed the love of mother have made us feel in with somber.

We have given her description how to feed ‘Ji-Hye’ the Love soup for children (officially named as ‘Nutrinut’) by mixing with baked corn soup (the food which is taken by rural people of North Korea). As ‘Ji-hye’ she never tried decent food in her life before and she vomited out the Nutrinut, it demanded her to eat the Nutrinut continuously which will requires her to take effort.

One month later, we visited ‘Ji-Hye’ with hope and worrisome and we came to face successful result. ‘Ji-Hye’ previously couldn’t barely stayed in her mothers holding arms and barely make speak out, she restored her gain weight back by 1kg and she could express some feeling on her face. We could find hope in her mother’s smile. Moreover, North Korean began to feel the need of Nutrinut after seeing the amazing result, and allowed us to examine the 70 children who are in severe malnutrition then feed the Nutrinut accordingly.

During last November, we took third-visit and Ji-hye and her mother was waiting for us with big and large smile on their face gave us strong belief in our faith of Nutrinut. Not so surprisingly, after one and a half month later, Ji-hye has gained 1.5Kg more from preview weight, which was a normal weight for average children should be. We perplexed whether it was a same child of not, as Ji-hye’s healthy figure gave us overwhelmed happiness and touched our feeling.

Moreover, the other 70 children who was given ‘Nutrinut’ previously also gained weight by 1kg more in average and close to recovering stage, which proved the how much Jesus loves the children. ‘ Yes, you are the Christmas present send by Jesus!’ As we looking at the sparkling eyes of children we felt as if we have washed out all the hardships and difficult memories for last three and a half month of traveling the China and North Korea regions.

Due to successful result of sample test will allow to send lot more ‘Nutirnut’ to North Korea than before. I truly wish Nutirnut to become a life saving Christmas gift.

Love and humbleness is the wisest mission strategy

Did you know, that for North Korean who says you have to be lucky to eat just two meals per day, 'rice cake soup' ( which is the most common meal that every Korean has) is no more in their memory.

Recently developed asphalt road following ‘Ap Rock River’ (river which lies on the bother line of China and North Korea) has allowed wider travel. We could able to visit the village of upper river and we didn’t know how to express heartbreaking scenery of rural community which had 10 houses that is all falling apart. What has surprised us even more was that such place was watched by guarding soldiers. It was indeed marvelous to see how quickly people ran across the river by avoiding the eyes of soldiers with carrying the materials to fix the house and food given from us.

What we do here is that passing on love of Jesus to North Korean people who have came to every parts of river side village church of China by passing the Ap – Rock river, by giving them foods and clothes to wear. Some American people knew this activity and recently they have asked us to pass on the Bibles, Radio and things like Rice cake for Rice cake soup! However, did you know Rice cake soup is already forgotten food by North Korean? Things like radio, rice cake may seen to obviously odd to have which might lead to worst case of threatening Christian followers lives. Rather, it’s more important to understand the real and detailed situation of North Korea, and be modest towards supporting them. This will be must more wiser method of mission strategy.

People, who well understood the situation of North Korea, have collected donations to prepare 100 sacks of flour, and handed to North Korean people to come across the river. They were so happy and relived from danger of getting caught as it can be easily thrown away and hide compare to rice cake or noodles. It was so heartbreaking to see them to carry 2 or 3 sacks of flour and running through 60 ~70 slop degrees of harsh mountain roads. Nevertheless I felt happy to help them with small things and knowing that for those who carried flour were admired by who didn’t.

Maybe it is not a something radical thing to do,

but so many hidden hands that could have been impossible to do all this with out their help. I thank for Americans and South Korean supports who helped all this, and even from followers who resides in China for collect the donations and putting so much effort to make all this mission to come true. I also believe this was possible as there was a God’s guidance, devotion to death with strong faith of those North Korean brothers.

As God has mentioned,” don’t let your right hand know, what your left hand is doing”, and I have discovered this is indeed the best strategy for mission in North Korean.
Missionary B

August 27th of 2008

What's going on at Pyong Yang (North Korea)

North Korea, it's a such a close place you can ever visit from South Korea, however, it's far from familiarity. Such experience, however, have occurred from the unexpected part. Generally people wouldl normally think that there would be cultural shock over in Communism society on the other side of earth. However, such cultural shock didn't happend. Thesedays in newspapers of media, shows bits of every parts of world, thus creates familiarity with unexperienced. My Church ' Galbory Temple' is indeed far away from these places and not so surprisingly, our team had to take the wisdom from the previews short term mission trip members and fully prepared ( to over come cultural shock in case).

Instead of getting shocked from North Korean's Culture, even more striking experience was realised from spiritually and physically transferred my self through the mission trip. We commonly says that " when you go over to serve the others, finally it's you who gets served from it." I always believed in that words, however it's was a very differnt experience of merely knowing the words and actually doing it. I was overridden by my honest thoughts and feelings.

Physically, this trip was like as army train. Every morning I had to wake up early with strange food, and slept on the hard mattress. At the end of my day, I was exhausted. However, there was god's cherish. When we are in the middle of fasting, we can control our physical desire, thus

more sensitive spirit towards holyness. For the same reason, I was able to serve our sisters and brothers better by controlling personal wants.

Two nights before returning back to America, we stood front at 'Ap-Rok River' and watch North Korea. I could feel how desparate North Koreans were. There was almost no light to flesh and it was very dark and cold. However, middle of darkness I didn't see the peace. Rather it was stuffy and gloomy. I didn't understand how painful it would be for the North Koreans who risks their lives to pass the Ap-Rok river to survive. I suddenly heard a voice from holy spirit to hurry and see North Korean's to save their souls and lives. For thoese who have not yet heard gospel, I felt insummount love and heath felt warmness in my mind.

Participant :*John (Jonathan) Youngs

John was born in California Oakland of America.
